Tax Aide Volunteers Needed
Filing IRS and Wisconsin income taxes is overwhelming for thousands of people. Just looking at the 1040 form with its 50 blank lines for you to fill in can cause people to shudder and their minds to go blank.
A few years ago, before covid, AARP Tax-Aide Volunteers, working at Larsen Family Public Library in Webster, helped over 300 senior citizens to file their taxes each year. Our aim is to re-establish this Tax Aide program that serves Burnett and Polk Counties.
We already have a volunteer to serve as the local coordinator and one experienced Tax Aide volunteer to file people’s taxes. More volunteers are needed.
Experience isn’t required. Training manuals and online training videos will help volunteers to learn what is necessary for the simple tax filings we will work on for Senior Citizens. And, all tax forms are double-checked by an experienced person to ensure that the information was entered correctly. So, no one has to worry about having the sole responsibility for doing this important work.
If you can follow directions and think in a straight-forward way, please consider volunteering to be a Tax Aide. For more information or to volunteer, please call the Larsen Family Library, 715-866-7697, by October 28. If we have enough volunteers, we will provide Tax Aide two days a week from the middle of February to early April. Training materials are available now to give volunteers plenty of time to complete their training.
